If you've never read the comics, you might actually enjoy this movie. As a life-long X-Men fan, I have to honestly say that most of the X movies have failed to capture the same spirit that made the books great. Aside from X2, First Class, and Days of Future Past, the series has been very underwhelming. The writers of this movie must have drawn inspiration from X-Men 3: Last Stand instead of continuing the trend of quality set by X2, First class, and Days of Future Past. There is way TOO Much Jennifer Lawrence/Mystique, and not enough Olivia Munn/Psylocke, Alexandra Shipp/Storm, and Ben Hardy/Angel/Archangel! This movie felt like another chapter of the Hunger Games. As I stated before, they over utilize J Law/Mystique. This time around, her acting feels forced and completely phoned in. It feels like she was being forced to do this movie. She doesn’t seem as engaged as in previous outings. I think the huge role that she has in the movie makes it all the more obvious.
There are four reasons to watch this film and they are The Four Horsemen of Apocalypse! Fassbender/Magneto steals the show and the new Storm is a vast improvement over Hallie Berry's version. Olivia Munn looks awesome as Psylocke (she needed more lines) and Ben Hardy looks great as Angel/Archangel. The makers really failed to capture the true essence of the X-Men. Aside from the school scenes and the Four Horsemen, this movie was a major letdown. It pales in comparison to First Class and Days of Future Past. Apocalypse fails as villain. He make Ultron look like Loki or The Kingpin from the Daredevil series! I know the general public will still enjoy this, but I have to honestly say that I enjoyed BVS more than I enjoyed this film. It’s not the worst film in the series, but it’s definitely far from the best! If you liked X3, or X-men Origins: Wolverine, then you’ll probably like this one as well. One thing that this film has going for it is that it is nowhere near as bad as the Fantastic Four reboot! With that being said I’m done, back to making comic books I go… PEACE!
